This morning we, over breakfast, were having a chat about the fact that the rescheduled Megadeth/Slayer Tour of Canada will have both bands playing their 1990s albums Rust In Peace and Seasons In The Abyss, in entirety. I then got thinking about metal albums from that year. Here is my list of 10 favourite albums from that year.

Alice in Chains – Facelift
Annihilator – Never, Neverland
Anthrax – Persistence of Time
Celtic Frost – Vanity/Nemesis
Death – Spiritual Healing
Iced Earth – Iced Earth
Judas Priest – Painkiller
Megadeth – Rust In Peace
Pantera – Cowboys from Hell
Slayer – Seasons in the Abyss

8 out of 10 of the above albums are featured on Spotify, here is the playlist – http://open.spotify.com/user/toxicmusic79/playlist/5h1SRJY8SkmPWeI0Y1rQTC

Motörhead - The Golden Years EP

I was flicking through my recently arrived copy of Decibel magazine and noticed that Ace Of Spades is this months Hall Of Fame album. That article got me thinking about how regularly Motörhead made the UK singles charts, getting their highest placings during the late 70s and early 80s – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motörhead_discography#Singles.

So I put together a list of my top 5 favourite singles/EPs by the band.

  1. The Golden Years EP
  2. Ace Of Spades
  3. Overkill
  4. Bomber
  5. Killed By Death

3 Inches Of Blood - Advance And Vanquish

After posting yesterday about the forthcoming 3IOB tour, I felt like putting together a playlist of popular albums by similar artists to 3IOB. So, once again, I fed the band through my ‘listening suggestion’ procedure. Here is what I ended up with, a sort of Power/Thrash/Speed album list:

  • 3 Inches Of Blood – Advance & Vanquish
  • Iced Earth – The Dark Saga
  • Primal Fear – Jaws Of Death
  • Grave Digger – Heavy Metal Breakdown
  • Mystic Prophecy – Vengeance
  • Beyond Fear – Beyond Fear
  • Rebellion – Miklagard
  • Cellador – Enter Deception
  • Running Wild – Port Royal
  • Wolf – Wolf
