Terrorizer – All The Nines – August 2010

Posted in Albums Of The Month, List, Terrorizer, Top Albums by newmusicexcess on August 21, 2010

Another magazine whose subscription I have let run out is Terrorizer. My intention is to now buy just the specials and the issues containing the Writers/Readers polls, as the international subscription to Canada is a bit pricey and with so many of the extreme magazines now  seeming to run the same bands and features every month, it makes more sense just to pick up a monthly copy of Decibel.

So, here is the Album Of The Month* and a list of albums that got 9 or above in Terrorizer’s August 2010 Issue (199):

Khoma - A Final Storm

I’ve just been going through this month’s copy of Decibel, my last one through the mail, as my subscription has just run out and I will probably just pick it up from a local newsstand. Here’s a run down of this months new albums that score 9 or more in the review section:

Sadly only a couple of these have turned up on Spotify, so far. I’ve just been checking out Kohma’s, A Final Storm, which is excellent.

This morning we, over breakfast, were having a chat about the fact that the rescheduled Megadeth/Slayer Tour of Canada will have both bands playing their 1990s albums Rust In Peace and Seasons In The Abyss, in entirety. I then got thinking about metal albums from that year. Here is my list of 10 favourite albums from that year.

Alice in Chains – Facelift
Annihilator – Never, Neverland
Anthrax – Persistence of Time
Celtic Frost – Vanity/Nemesis
Death – Spiritual Healing
Iced Earth – Iced Earth
Judas Priest – Painkiller
Megadeth – Rust In Peace

EMF - Stigma

When I was searching yesterday for some Tom Jones video’s for my post, I noticed that he often covered EMF’s hit Unbelievable during his live shows. At one point they actually played together on a music show. So that got me thinking about EMF, the second album Stigma (which was way darker sounding than the debut), and similar artists that were around at that time and I ended up putting together one of my similar artists playlists, the process for which I documented on an earlier “Similar Artists To” posts. Here is the album list I ended up with:

  • EMF – Stigma
  • Jesus Jones – Liquidizer
  • Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine – 1992: The Love Album
  • Ned’s Atomic Dustbin – Brain Blood Volume
  • Pop Will Eat Itself – This Is The Day…
  • The Farm – Spartacus
  • The Soup Dragons – Hang-Tent
  • The Wonder Stuff – Never Loved Elvis
  • The Shamen – En-Tact
  • Inspiral Carpets – Life

Well, I suppose I hade better post that EMF/Tom Jones performance, seeing as I mentioned it. In case you are wondering the track Unbelievable (the bands big hit) appeared on EMF’s first album, Schubert Dip.
