My Favourite Top Of The Pops Appearances – #1

Posted in List by newmusicexcess on March 24, 2010

As a young person growing up in the UK during the 70s, Top Of The Pops was an institution. The discussion at school the next day would often involve talking about what had been show on Top Of The Pops a previous evening. Here are some of my favourite appearances.

Queen – Killer Queen

Jilted John – Jilted John

Sham 69 – Hurry Up Harry

The Ruts – Babylon’s Burning

The Skids – Into The Valley

I could go on…but I might save that for another post.

I’m a 60s kid (nearly in my 60s too) but enjoyed seeing The Ruts again. Thanks for digging it out.

If I had to pick a 60s most memorable appearance it would have to be Marianne Faithful’s As Tears Go By. At the peak of our adolescent hormone rush, it left all of us in school the next morning in a highly agitated state. Nothing else was discussed at morning break.
